About Me...

I’m Eliza Rice DuBois. I live on the beautiful Seacoast of New Hampshire. I’m a stay at home Mom of two. My first love is my family, my husband Greg, our son Jackson, and our daughter Georgia. My passion is for Art and Design. I love to create all kinds of things in my home studio, jewelry, vintage chenille baby quilts, collage, etc… I draw inspiration from nature, my children, Fashion magazines, a good book, a great conversation, all sorts of things really. My mother Jane is an Artist. From a young age I was always playing in my mother’s studio getting into things I probably shouldn’t have …my mother’s paints, her oil crayons, her fabric and sewing supplies, her jewelry box, and her make up! She taught me to sew and helped me make dresses for my dolls and Barbies. I first began making jewelry at age 13 and have been doing it on and off ever since. I started taking Metalsmithing and Precious Metal Clay (PMC) classes 6 years ago when I lived in Connecticut and have continued to take classes from local Artist, Autumn Hampshire when I moved to New Hampshire 3 years ago. I studied Fashion Merchandising in college. I went back to school and trained to be and Esthetician and Make-up Artist. I worked as an Licensed Esthetician and Make-up Artist for five years in both a Spa and for a Plastic Surgeon and I still currently hold my license. When my son was born I became a stay at home Mom. Shortly after his birth I began sewing LOTS of baby quilts for friends, family, etc. I did all the sewing during his naps. I started a little business called, “While He Sleeps” and I made vintage chenille baby quilts, throws, pillows and appliquéd onesies. I learned so much from the whole process. I sadly decided to put “While He Sleeps” to bed when my daughter Georgia was born due to lack of time. However, I desperately missed feeding my creative spirit and wanted a place where I could sell all of the things I make. I didn’t want to be limited to just quilts or jewelry because frankly I get bored making the same thing over and over. So… Eliza Jane Studio was born. My philosophy, if you will, is about finding the right balance in a piece. The harmony of the colors, the shape, and the texture should be woven together. I think that is what great design is all about. Believe me, I am not saying that all of my designs are great, but if something is off and I am not satisfied I start over. You will never see anything on my website that has not been thoughtfully made. Honestly, I fuss and fret over each piece I make until it is my version of perfect. That being said, I hope you enjoy your piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.
